A massive magnitude 8.9 earthquake struck the north east coast of Japan at 1436hrs local time on Friday 11 March.
The resulting tsunami caused unimaginable destruction to one the world's wealthiest nations.
Two days later (13 March), the death toll stands at over 1500 with that figure expected to rise dramatically.
