Arrests over China baby's death in one-child policy row


Police in China have detained two government workers after a baby was killed in a dispute over a violation of the country's one-child policy.

State media said the 13-month-old boy was dropped as family planning officials tried to fine his parents for having three children.

The infant was then run over by the officials' van.

MPs call for urgent action to reduce flooding


The government needs to take urgent action to reduce the impact of flooding, MPs have said.
Ministers had been "too slow" in pushing through changes to improve protection, the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee said.
But it welcomed government plans for more competition in the water sector, in its report on the draft Water Bill.
